haha yeah guess we’re doing cat comics now. this is what we do at orteil42 dot tumblr dot com haha
but for real game dev resuming shortly
This is the best and more concise explanation I've seen of what's going on:
The worst thing is that once they are done migrating outside of Google cloud, the costs may go down, but probably not too much (they still need servers and bandwidth somewhere, and at Twitter scale it's always going to be hella expensive), and on top of that they will acquire a endemic stability problem (running their own cloud with the Minimum Viable Team they have right now? Pfffffdhahaha)

"I’m a WGA strike captain & lot coordinator at NBC Universal. On the 2nd week of our strike, Universal began construction on the sidewalks we were picketing on. On day 74 of our strike, they have fenced in and demolished every sidewalk surrounding Gates 1, 2, 4, and 5. (1/3)
It has made picketing at Universal a challenge, and our incredible Captains and picketers have risen to that challenge every day. But enough is enough. Universal MUST install what the City, County and LAPD Labor Relations have deemed necessary: a protected pedestrian lane. (2/3)
Please sign the petition. Please share it. And please come picket with us at Universal so we can continue to make it clear that the WGA will hold this picket line no matter what. (3/3)
You don’t have to be WGA to sign. If you like sidewalks and walking safely, consider signing!"
CGI animators should unionize next. normally, their jobs would be too precarious to strike, since studios would replace them without a second thought, but if it's part of this larger general film strike, they might finally have meaningful power to better their working conditions
if CGI animators unionized, it would kill the MCU. straight up. the the entire business model is built on exploiting CGI animators
THEY ARE TRYING!!!!! SIGN THE PETITION TO GET THE DISNEY ANIMATORS' UNION RECOGNIZED
this petition is from IATSE (union), btw! it actually has credibility, unlike most change.org/etc petitions! please sign it!!
